Good Practice Guide for Solicitors in the Children’s Hearings System
Join us to hear about a new guide on the key role solicitors play in children’s hearings, co-produced by hearings experienced young people, solicitors and other adults involved in hearings.
Our overall aim is to promote solicitor best practice in children’s hearings in line with what children tell us is important to them and ensure children are aware of their rights to a solicitor. Upholding the rights of children in their hearings requires a unique skill set. There are many examples of good practice by solicitors and of children who have positive experiences of lawyers representing them. The purpose of this work is to highlight this good practice, promote better understanding of the solicitor’s role, the child’s right to a solicitor and how a solicitor can help them.
Court Preparation – Being A Witness
This webinar is for professionals who work alongside the Children’s Hearing System and who may be required to give evidence in court proceedings. The webinar will guide you through what is involved if you are required to give evidence in Court. It will introduce you to the Reporter’s role within Court proceedings, practical tips on how you, the witness, can prepare for Court, witness statements and explain what might happen on the day.

This webinar is for professionals who work alongside the Children’s Hearings System. It will introduce you to the Children’s Hearings System, the process of referrals to SCRA and the principles upon which the system operates. The webinar will further progress to guiding your understanding of making a referral to SCRA and factors which you should consider when doing so.
