LGBT Youth Charter

Work is well underway for SCRA to achieve the LGBT Scotland Youth Charter.

This is the second time we have undertaken the charter. We were delighted to achieve it back in December 2019.

The aim of the charter is to ensure organisations like SCRA proactively include LGBTQ+ people in every aspect of our work.

The work to achieve the charter is being led by a small group of staff from SCRA offices across the country who volunteer as Inclusion Ambassadors.

Sarah Wood, SCRA’s Inclusion and Diversity Manager, said: “We are really excited to be undertaking the charter journey again.

“We are continually looking to improve our services to children, young people, their families, our partners and our staff and the charter is an ideal way of ensuring we are meeting the needs of the LGBTQ+ community.

“It will be a significant accomplishment to achieve the charter again, but we have received tremendous support and buy-in from our staff.

“Over the past year, our Inclusion Ambassadors have been working hard on a variety of projects, including a pledge campaign and events around Pride Month and Purple Friday. There’s been some fantastic events and activities across SCRA.”

The charter requires SCRA to action key areas including leadership, training, policies, practice and evaluation and monitoring.

As part of this work, our LGBTQ+ group has drafted an action plan, developed an awareness training package for all staff, and have reviewed some key policies to ensure they meet the standards set out in the Equality Act (2010) and the Human Rights Act (1998).
