Appointment of our latest Modern Apprentice
On Care Day 2026 we are delighted to announce we have appointed our 15th care experienced Modern Apprentice in SCRA.
Our flagship Modern Apprentice programme in SCRA was introduced in 2010 and is exclusively for people who have experience of being in care and/or of the Children’s Hearings System.
The new Modern Apprentice will be in the SCRA Dundee office, but covering the whole Tayside and Fife Locality, including our Hearing centres in Perth and Arbroath.
In SCRA, the Modern Apprenticeship programme’s approach is employment within one of our offices to gain administrative work experience, as well as undertaking a qualification delivered by West Lothian College. The qualification we offer is a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 in Business and Administration.
Alongside this, we work with our Modern Apprentices to improve children, young people, and families’ understanding of, and participation, in Children’s Hearings. Our Modern Apprentices have been, or are, members of our Corporate Parenting and Participation Group. They have led on the development of the new Hearing rooms programme, supported us with the development of communications materials, consultations, work with partner agencies and the development of our own Voice of Experience Reference Group, as well as many other new approaches. We also offer ongoing learning and development opportunities both within SCRA and Supported by local colleges and learning institutions.
Jennifer Orren, SCRA’s Participation Lead said: “We are delighted to announce on Care Day that our new Modern Apprentice will be starting at the end of February.
“We are extremely proud of our Modern Apprenticeship programme which has been running for more than 15 years, with 14 Modern Apprentices coming to work with us on a two year training programme. Most of our Modern Apprentices continue their career with SCRA afterwards, with a number moving on to new job opportunities, college or university.
“A big congratulations to all the young people who have successfully completed the programme and my thanks also to everyone who has supported them. We look forward to the programme continuing in the years ahead.”
