SCRA staff presenting Who Cares? Scotland with the cheque for £5,217
Staff at SCRA decided to work in partnership with Who Cares? Scotland to focus their fundraising efforts for 2009 on sending a young person from East Renfrewshire on the trip of a lifetime. To celebrate their 30th anniversary, Who Cares? Scotland is organising a range of activities, a key part of which is a fundraising trek to the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal in November.
Tasked with raising £1,980, enough to send one young person on the trip, staff at SCRA rose to the challenge and managed to raise enough to send two young people on the trip; Through a combination of different events held throughout the organisation including: sponsored cycle rides, walks and runs, Reiki treatments, cake bakes, quiz’s, Easter egg decorating competition, dress down days, a swishing party, a prize bingo night and general donations.
Netta Maciver, SCRA’s Principal Reporter/Chief Executive is delighted with success of the fundraising effort, she said: “What a success story - not just in terms of the money raised but all the different efforts and skills staff brought to it. We have raised more than double the original amount. What an achievement and what a staff group!”
In September, staff from across the organisation gathered to present one of the young people to benefit from the fundraising with a cheque for £5,217 at a special ceremony held at SCRA’s Glasgow offices in Bell Street.
Heather Gray, Chief Executive of Who Cares? Scotland said: “We are really grateful to everyone at SCRA for their amazing fundraising efforts. We are all really excited about the trek to Nepal - part of our Reaching Higher campaign - which is about being aspirational for young people who are looked after in Scotland. We hope that the experience will be life affirming for the 22 young people going on the trek and that the opportunity to see another culture will be an enduring memory for them. We hope too that this trek will be just the start of a relationship between Who Cares? Scotland and SCRA, working with young people to ensure that their voices are heard.”
