ICO undertaking

Partners may be aware that SCRA has recently signed an undertaking with the Information Commissioner’s Office, following two data breaches.

Neil Hunter, Chief Executive of Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration has signed an undertaking to ensure that staff are made aware of the organisation’s policies around the storage and use of personal data, and that sufficient checks are put in place to ensure the policy is followed.

During office moves staff will also be made aware of other existing policies and procedures and monitored to check that they are being followed throughout the moving process.

Neil said: “SCRA takes its responsibilities for the information it holds very seriously and we are grateful for the support and advice given to us by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We are acting on all the ICO’s recommendations to improve SCRA’s compliance with the Data Protection Act (DPA).

“SCRA is working closely with the Information Commissioners Office and has implemented a number of improvements to our procedures including mandatory training. We have also introduced a number of new roles across the organisation, to ensure that we meet the conditions of the ICO’s Undertaking and of the DPA more generally.

“In addition, an Information Governance Group, chaired by a member of SCRA’s Board, has been established. This group provides direction on information management and security, and it will take forward actions to ensure SCRA complies with conditions of the ICO’s Undertaking.”
