Children’s Hearings Improvement Partnership

Polaroid picture of a young girl playing on a scooter
The first meeting of the Children’s Hearings Improvement Partnership (CHIP) was held in November 2010.

This collaborative national improvement partnership has been set up with the sole purpose of delivering better outcomes for children across the whole Children’s Hearings System.

You can review the CHIP Terms of Reference here.

The CHIP is chaired by Tom McNamara, Head of Children’s Hearings Branch at the Scottish Government, and its membership is drawn from representatives of SCRA, the Association of Directors of Social Work, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, the Children’s Panel Advisory Group, the Children’s Panel Chairs Group, Children’s Hearings Training Officers, the Scottish Safeguarders Association, the Crown Office, the Scottish Commissioner for Children and Young People, the Scottish Government, GIRFEC, NHS, Children's Hearings Scotland, COSLA and the Care Inspectorate.

This multi-agency forum allows partners to discuss practical improvements across the Children’s Hearings System. The forum will shortly publish a work plan that will include the development of a dedicated set out outcomes for the Children’s Hearings System that all stakeholders will strive to achieve.
